Syphilis Flaring Up in China
While the syphilis breakout is interesting, I really just wanted to show you what a Chinese-style hooker bust looks like.  Lots of nudity, lots of tighty-whiteys (or reddies) and lots of shame.  And the most Chinese-looking hotel room you'll ever see.  The photo which ran in today's China Daily was taken during a prostitution raid in Guangzhou as part of an large-scale initiative to rid the city of its syphilis problem.  According to a government report, cases of the syph' between 1993 and 2005 multiplied by 28 times.  And congenital syphilis transmitted to babies has risen 72% annually between 1991 and 2005.  Here's something I didn't know.  According to an AFP report Friday, when the People's Republic was founded in 1949, syphilis was a horrible problem in China.  In the major cities, 1 out of every 20 people had the disease while 3% of rural Chinese had the disease.  Wow.  That's an epidemic.  Back to the photo.  Besides the fact that the China Daily published a photo of a disrupted threesome, I wonder how they actually snapped the photo.  Because it looks as though the photographer gave the ménage à trois participants time to cover up and hide themselves in shame.  It almost looks posed.  And while the prostitute is stark naked, the dude with the red briefs managed to keep his socks on the whole time.  Perhaps he cares more about contracting athlete's foot than he does syphilis.
