Jay-Z Issues Statement on China Ban
As you can see from the photo, China's senior citizen community is really down in the dumps about the Jay-Z concert cancellation.  On Tuesday, the Chinese government announced that Jay-Z's lyrics, mostly the ones about drugs and bitches, were not suitable for a Shanghainese audience.  I, who naturally had reserved tickets for the event, received a phone call from a ticket representative yesterday letting me know that there would no Jay-Z concert as scheduled on October 23.  When I asked the woman why, she gave me an interesting answer.  In her poor English she said, "The minister say the lyrics are no good in China."  As someone who enjoys walking around China listening to rap music on my headphones, I couldn't disagree more with the minister.  I think Jay-Z's lyrics are fabulous for China.  I especially like "Can I Get a What! What!".  But anyway, Jay-Z is in the middle of a massive world tour taking him to places affected by water shortages and contamination.  He is filming a documentary for MTV titled "Diary of Jay-Z: Water For Life".  And he should have come here because, quite frankly, the water sucks.  Sometimes I forget in the shower that I could die from ingesting it and I'll swallow some by accident and freak out.  Thursday, Jay-Z released a statement to the media regarding China's decision.  Young Hov' said:

I look forward to rescheduling my concert date in Shanghai.  This world tour has been a life-changing experience and it has only been made better by touching the fans that I am seeing for the first time.

It's pretty cool that Jay didn't just say "fuck it" or demean the Chinese government the way Mick Jagger did when numerous songs were banned from the Rolling Stones' Shanghai show last April.  The real question is why did the Ministry wait until 12 days before the scheduled date to realize that Jay-Z swears in his music.  I hope after all of this mess, there is a show.  And then after the show it's the after-party.  And then after the party it's the hotel lobby.  And after the 'Belve then it's probably 'Cris.  And after the original it's probably this.  UH!
