►Chinese Nannies In Demand
in U.S.
As China eases its cultural exchange visa policy, its
women are
going
to the
U.S. to be nannies. In the last five years, the demand for mainland
Chinese au pairs has risen not because of their ability to care for children,
but rather their ability to teach American children Mandarin. American
parents are finally beginning to recognize the value of Chinese as many are
projecting China will be the major economic power for the next generation.
Conversely, young Chinese women are given the opportunity to learn English for a
year and experience American culture first-hand. Everybody wins, except
the small child who has to learn one of the most difficult languages imaginable.
However,
these children are getting the edge, writes Ginia Bellafante.
