In an appearance Saturday night in Wolf Blitzer’s Situation Room, Charles Barkley reminded me why I love him so much. Never reluctant to speak his mind and never afraid to spark controversy, Charles seems, like most of us, utterly fed up with the Bush administration. He says the word “conservative” makes him sick to his stomach and that the neocons are nothing more than “fake Christians.” And while Wolf was visibly stunned by Charles’ candor (I think I saw one of his whiskers stand on end), I think deep down, Blitzer knows that Charles makes a sound point about the hypocrisy so deeply embedded in today’s religious Republicans. Barkley announced during this appearance that he will be running for governor in his home state of Alabama in 2014. I think he’ll be perfect. He’ll be a strong, free-thinking leader who advocates for those who need his voice. Who knew he was for gay marriage? Move over John McCain, there’s a new straight talk express pulling into the station.

One Response to “Sir Charles Sounds Off”

Isn’t he judging other people by calling them fake Christians, and thus is no better? I agree with most of what Sir Charles has to say. Hopefully, by 2014 hew will learn when to keep his mouth shut. He will have to answer to that dream team comment as well.
