I live in a residential building with a smoker two floors down, and it is disgusting. Not only is one hit with a wall of stench when going into the corridor/ stairway, I wake up at 4am with a putrid smell filling my bedroom, even with an air purifier. Smoking should definitely be banned in residential buildings with multiple units.

I would like to add: Americans should worry that the day-to-day freedoms experienced in China far outweigh those in the US. I am not talking about freedom to vote, freedom of the press, no internet firewalls, etc. I mean the daily life experiences.

In the USA, a cop walks into a restaurant. Everyone immediately feels guilty and thinks "are they here for me - what am I doing wrong at this instance". In China, one does not even notice when a police walks into a restaurant or bar.

In China, walking and smoking and drinking are all okay at the same time. In the USA you can walk and drink (but not aclcohol) but cannot drive and .... so many rules to follow.

USA has a lot of rules to follow. China has few. China taxes - taking monthly from you salary and a simple 3 line equation to calculate what they are. No annual tax return for most people. In the USA, we have an industry based upon taxes (tax return accountants, the IRS, etc.).

Heck, even health care - USA only covers 80% of this and 50% of that and a bot of the other thing. China - very simple - you have cash you get cured.

So does China protect and support the people as well as the US - not really. But in China you do get to come and go and do as you like.

And no-one needs to mention that in the USA we get to vote - yea right - why the hell is Bush still president?
