Bill Maher on the ‘Crap from China’
After a three-and-a-half-month hiatus, Bill Maher’s left-leaning political program “Real Time” returned to HBO Friday night. And while Bill normally spends the hour skewering conservatives and boasting of his sexual prowess, this week Bill dedicated the most cutting segment on his program — the final “New Rule” — to the Chinese-made toy recall. In a three-and-a-half-minute rant, Maher took aim at the American obsession with “the bargain” and how the market for 30-dollar DVD players and 12-dollar jeans has induced the Chinese to produce sub-standard items that are not only crappy, but in some instances, deadly. While on the surface, it may seem Maher is criticizing China, in actuality, he blames the American consumer market for the hazardous toys. As Maher remarks, what can you expect when you “buy toys from a Communist police state?”
