Grenada Band Leader Relieved of His Duties
On Sunday, I wrote about the Royal Grenada Police band who played Taiwan’s national anthem for China’s ambassador and nearly 500 Chinese workers who were celebrating the opening of the island’s new national stadium financed by China (scroll down). Oops. Well, as Grenada’s prime minister promised, heads have rolled. According to an International Herald Tribune article Tuesday:
The leader of a Grenada police band that performed Taiwan’s national anthem at the inauguration of a China-financed cricket stadium was temporarily relieved of his music duties. Inspector Bryan Hurst will not lead the Royal Grenada Police Band while investigators determine how his ensemble came to play the anthem of Taiwan instead of its rival during the opening of the US$40 million Queen’s Park stadium last weekend.
It has not been confirmed whether or not any St. George official told Mr. Hurst, “you will never work in this town again.” However, Flumesday has been tipped that Mr. Hurst has already received offers from a couple high schools in upstate New York who want to perfect their marching bands’ rendition of “Louie, Louie” before the big game.
